Encouraging open and honest talk about periods

Meet the facilitator: Ben

You've probably all heard about our betty buses, right? Our pink and yellow beauties are travelling around the country encouraging young boys and girls everywhere to be more open and honest about that time of the month. We thought you'd want to meet some of our fabulous betty ambassadors who are leading the way in encouraging those conversations.

This week we'd like to introduce you to Ben!

He is an actor, singer and Potter nerd hailing from the beautiful North Devon.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself!

My favourite party trick is performing ‘The Element Song’ by Tom Lehrer. It's quite the mouthful!

What is your favourite thing about the betty bus?

It's a big, yellow and pink safe haven for girls to talk all about their periods in order to make them feel more comfortable about that time of the month. I'm also quite the tech geek so Aurasma is something I hope the kids find as cool as I do.

Why do you think the betty bus is so important?

It bridges the gap between girls and boys and their understanding of periods. They (hopefully) leave the sessions more comfortable and willing to talk with each other about what they've learnt and that communication is very important.

Your favourite moment of the tour so far?

I've only been doing it for a short time and already having a great time. There's no better feeling so far than getting someone too uncomfortable to say ‘period’ to shout it at the top of their lungs. We see tremendous growth in the boy’s understanding of what it is to be kind and how they can help. We're making a difference, and it feels awesome.
