Encouraging open and honest talk about periods

Meet the Facilitator: Hayley

You've probably all heard about our betty buses, right? Our pink and yellow beauties are travelling around the country encouraging young boys and girls everywhere to be more open and honest about that time of the month. We thought you'd want to meet some of our fabulous betty ambassadors who are leading the way in encouraging those conversations.

This week we'd like to introduce you to Hayley.

Hayley achieved a BA Hons in Theatre Studies with Dance at The University of Hull and completed her training at The Rep College.  Some of Hayley's favourite jobs to date have been performing in Repertory theatre, touring Europe and the US as Wendy in Bob the Builder Live; Presenting for Sky Sports, and appearing as Jess in PRIDE for BBC Films.

Hayley also works as a Storyteller, Acting Coach and Director for children aged from 3-16.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself

I look creepily similar to Jon from S Club 7! I bet you google him now...see!

What is your favourite thing about the betty bus?

I absolutely love the creativity that goes into the Presentations on the top deck! It’s amazing to see the transformation in the girls' confidence from first entering the bus to presenting their own ideas in a way they feel comfortable.

Why do you think the betty bus is so important?

The betty bus provides a safe and fun environment where girls can be themselves and be proud to be themselves. There is no whispering or lowered voices when it comes to the “P word”! The betty bus reinforces the importance of support for girls and boys and I love it!

Your favourite moment of the tour so far?

I think watching my first period rap was pretty special! Also I loved the Halloween sessions, interacting with witches, zombies and clowns was so much fun!

Tell us a period cringe (we’ve all got one, hey)

I started my period on a school trip to France. It was an overnight coach journey, I had no knowledge, no support, no products and had only taken one pair of trousers...turquoise jeans! I laugh now but it was so awful at the time!

Tell us your period craving?

Mcdonald’s always goes down a treat! Or anything with cheese on!

Your favourite thing to do when you have your period is…

I do most things as usual but I do love laying on the sofa with a hot water bottle, watching a Miss Marple or my absolute fave Poirot!
