Encouraging open and honest talk about periods
On the 26th September, our betty bus was in Blackburn. Our host school was Mellor St Mary CofE Primary School and we also saw pupils from St Andrew's Primary and Salisbury Primary.
The students from all 3 schools were very intelligent and friendly. The sessions were great, with lots of lively, imaginative minds. The pupils were very enthusiatic, excited and engaged fully. They were eager to take part in all aspects of the workshops.
The girls had a great time on board the betty bus:
"I loved all the information and kindness"
"I feel better about periods now I know I can go and talk to someone. I have really enjoyed it here and I'm proud to be a woman!"
"I loved doing the quiz because it helped us learn exactly what we would go through"
It's so nice to know that we make girls feel comfortable talking about their periods.
It' clear they had fun in the ball pit!
The teachers also enjoyed the day:
"The betty bus has provided the girls with a relaxed, fun and open environment to discuss periods and ask any questions. Fantastic facility for young girls. Thank you"
"All the boys were engaged with each of the activities. Introduction of fun games - some at pace - ensured they listened and participated. The boys started to address issues they would normally keep away from, this was good. The activities also engaged the wide age group - which was good to see. Thank you."
