Encouraging open and honest talk about periods
On Monday 20th November we visited North Petherwin Primary School in Plymouth. They also acted as hosts to other schools so we had a great day seeing pupils from lots of different schools.
The children were super, and they were all enthusiastic and very good at participating. They worked hard in the sessions and produced very creative presentations and they all went away as 'Period Experts'.
The girls had a great time on the bus:
"I found it really fun and enjoyable as they made it super interactive"
"I had good fun and learnt a lot. The people here are really understanding and kind"
"I had a great time learning about how and why we have periods on the betty bus!"
The teachers were also really positive:
"Great activities. Excellent at putting apprehensive girls at ease. Very informative"
"A fun and interactive way to learn about periods. By the end of the session, the girls were relaxed and happy to discuss their thoughts and feelings about periods" (Emma Godwin Y5/6 Teacher from North Petherwin Primary, Cornwall)
"Very relaxed atmosphere. I have a few nervous girls who would normally struggle but were very relaxed and confident to join in and ask questions" (Emma Parsons, Y 4, 5, 6 Werrington Primary)
"Excellent idea, excellent explanations excellent teachers - will have relieved a lot of fears and worries and explained so much. Well done! Thank you" (Windmill Hill Academy)
"Fantastic! Made a subject that is generally difficult to discuss, fun and easy to talk about" (Miss Young Year 6, Windmill Hill Academy);
"Brilliant! Very entertaining and informative way of teaching the girls about periods. The girls were obviously very immersed in the lesson" (Mrs. Clark Year 6, Windmill Hill Academy)
