Encouraging open and honest talk about periods

Tranmoor Primary

On the 2nd October, our betty bus visited Tranmoor Primary School in Armthorpe, Doncaster.

We had a great day with the pupils and they gave some very thoughtful reponses in the discussions as well as being very enthusiastic.

The girls on the bus made some excellent posters and presentations for teaching others how to make yourself feel better when you're on your period.

The girls really enjoyed themselves:

"I am on my period and I'm a bit anxious but I've gotten used to it and now I'm totally fine. I've been giving my friends some advice to help them to not be scared."

"Today was a very fun experience. Learning about periods. And if I wasn't here today then when I have my period, then I wouldn't know anything about it. Thank you betty bus!"

The teachers also had a fun day, and understood the importance of teaching boys, as well as girls about periods.

“I’ve been teaching for 15 years and we’ve always talked to the girls about it but never the boys, and it’s nice that it’s taught by men as well. I’ve never seen anything like it and I think we’re very lucky to have it. We all enjoyed it - particularly me, so thank you.”
