Celebrate 100 years of Women's Suffrage with betty

2018 marks the 100 year anniversary of the women’s right to vote!

This June, we’ll be marching to celebrate those very women as part of PROCESSIONS – a series of UK marches in which people taking part will pay tribute to the suffragettes by wearing one of their iconic colours – green, white or violet.

Inspired by the ideas, themes and history behind PROCESSIONS, the team have created a teaching resource as a starting point for schools across the UK, to explore and learn about the history of Women’s Suffrage, democracy and gender equality. betty is delighted to have partnered with PROCESSIONS to include some fun activities around girl power and today's modern female heroes!

They have created some simple and easy to follow activities, which will encourage pupils and students to develop historical knowledge and awareness of Women’s Suffrage as well as offering an opportunity to discuss gender equality within today’s context. Activities encourage responses through discussion, movement, debate, music and visual art.

The resources are primarily designed for Years 5-8 in England and Wales, Years 6-9 in Northern Ireland and P6-S2 in Scotland, but they’re easily accessible for lower and upper age ranges.

Get the resources here now!

PROCESSIONS want to encourage young people to explore their own views and opinions on gender equality today, as well as gaining an understanding about the importance of democracy and using their vote. Only 57% of 18-19-year olds voted in the last election (source YouGov website) and they want this project to encourage young people to vote in the future and inspire them to have their voice heard.

This resource pack contains creative ideas and is modular so it can be followed through from beginning to end or activities can be picked out and used individually, and work well with the banner and flag making toolkits available to download  here.

Why not hold your own procession in school and make your own banners? Or create a display in your classroom or school reception?
